Walter & Nora's Children
Many years have passed since pictures of our parents,
aunts and uncles were taken so long ago. If anyone has
a later (or better) photo of any of the people pictured here, I would be glad
to use it if you can send me a copy.

Now, without further adieu, here are Walter & Nora's kids:

Kenneth Edward Paschall
B. January 18, 1912- D. October 16, 1959

Kenneth married Sarah Margaret Privette (Born to Sarah Ovita {Miss Sally} Privette, February 10, 1921-D. January 4, 1960) on January 24, 1937 at the Franklin County Courthouse in Louisburg, North Carolina. Their firstborn was their daughter, Shelby Jean, born that winter on December 11, 1937. Almost 3 years later their first son was born, James Kenneth on November 7, 1940. Following him was their 2nd son, Jasper Broughton, born on May 7, 1946. Then the last of their children was their 2nd daughter, Joyce Marie, born November 30, 1952.

Throughout his life, Kenneth's greatest love, aside from his wife and children of course, was to be out on the water fishing. It has been mentioned by all his siblings that "...if Kenneth was at work, and he wanted to go out fishing, he'd just up and quit whatever he was doing, and go fishing!" And sure enough, when it came time for him to go to that greater fishing hole - he died while out on the water, fishing.

He, like Will Rogers, never knew a stranger in his life. No matter where he was going or what he was doing, he would always stop and talk to people along the way.

Margaret was a homemaker but she shared some of  Kenneth's joy in his pasttime by going out and baiting crab lines with him and enjoyed fishing from the bank on occasion, but she had no desire to go out on the boats. The rest of the time she spent raising their four children. She came from a large family herself with eight other brothers and sisters whom she enjoyed visiting throughout her lifetime. Two and a half months after Kenneth passed away, Margaret died as well while she was pregnant with her fifth child. Unfortunately they lived too far from the hospital for any possibility of saving the baby's life.

William Louis Paschall
B. May 21, 1914 - D. September 27, 1970
William married Mae Malone Wheeler (B. August 4, 1920) sometime in 1938 in Franklin County. They had seven children beginning with their 1st son, Bobby Ray, August 15, 1939. About 2 years later their 2nd son was born, Barney Louis, June 7, 1941. The following year their 3rd son, Bennie Randolph was born on October 29, 1942. Some two years later, their first daughter, LaRue Faye, was born November 1, 1944. Their fourth son, Larry Eugene, was born 4 years later on December 12, 1948 (D. August 13, 1972). Larry was very athletic having been a basketball star in high school and it was unfortunate that his life ended so early. Their fifth child was their 2nd daughter, Linda Kay, born November 9, 1951. Their last child, their third daughter, Cynthia Shea, was born August 12, 1957.

William started out as a farmer and later on became a police officer for the Youngsville Police Department. He is buried in the Flat Rock Baptist Church Cemetery where his son Larry was later interred beside him.

Mae remarried some years after William's death and still lives in Youngsville, North Carolina. She has since retired but earlier in her life she worked for Burlington Industries for many years. Mae has always been known for her fine cooking and everyone just loves her homemade chocolate pies and banana pudding! One of the most favorite things from her kitchen that the whole family enjoys is her homemade Brunswick Stew. She's always been the 'backbone and the rock' of preparing for Wheeler and Paschall family reunions all these years. She hosted the last Paschall Reunion at her home in 1998.

One of her favorite joys has always been traveling with her sister, "Cat", to see the Atlanta Braves play at least once every year. At 81, you can still find her in the kitchen, making the dinners everyone loves. She still enjoys all her kids coming home for visits more than anything else.

Virginia Adeline (Addie) Paschall-Roper
B. May 9, 1917 -
Addie is the oldest living Paschall in our bloodline. She married Jasper (Buck) Hawthorn Roper, Sr. (B. January 26, 1909 - D. October 13, 1984) in the Spring of 1937 at Porthsmouth, Virginia where he was stationed in the Navy. Their first and only son, Jasper Hawthorn (JH) Roper, Jr. was born February 24, 1938. Their first daughter, Gaynelle Rilla, was born October 12, 1939. Their 2nd daughter, June Arlette, was born November 18, 1942.

After Addie's divorce from 'Buck', she lived for a time in Colorado where her daughter June resided. In the early eighties Addie moved back to Bunn, North Carolina where she bought the old homestead of her parents. During that time she organized the first Paschall Family Reunion and opened her home for many of the family members who came to spend the weekend. At that time, after she held the first one, Paschall Family Reunions were held every year on the first Sunday in July until 1994. Before the next Reunion could be held, Addie's health began to fail and she entered a nursing home. It wasn't until four years later, in 1998, when the next Reunion was held that it was decided then to hold them every five years. Addie was brought by family members to enjoy that one and hopefully will be at the next one scheduled for July, 2003. At 84, Addie now resides in a nursing home in Louisburg, North Carolina and is still in good health as of this writing. She is loved dearly by the whole family.

The following dedication is a personal note from J.B. Paschall, author of this website:

Bobbie Lee Paschall
B. May 11, 1919 - D. June 17, 1996
Bobbie Lee joined the Navy in 1935, fudging a bit about his age, he did get in but it was there that he was told that his name, Bobbie, wasn't a name at all! They told him he had to be called Robert so good ol' 'Uncle Sam' made him change his name to Robert!

He married Lois June (Shoop) who was born March 16, 1922. At this time we do not know the exact date that she passed away however, from a photo taken with all the children and Grandma Paschall, we do know she was alive at least until after the summer of 1958 but she had passed away sometime before Kenneth Edward Paschall died in 1959.

Robert and Lois had 8 children beginning with their daughter, Roberta Paschall-Pennington, born August 18, 1941.  She was followed by their 2nd daughter, Carol Ann Paschall-Breiter, born February  28, 1944.  Their third and fourth children were sons, William Joseph Paschall born   January 14, 1947 who died September 15, 1949 and Richard Paschall, born March 23, 1948. Richard died on October 25, 1978.   Their fifth and sixth children were twins: Candy Lou Paschall-Bennett and Randy Lee Paschall, born July 14, 1949. They had one more son after the twins, Robert (Bobby) Lee Paschall, Jr. born August 11, 1952 and  another daughter, Loni Kay Paschall-Ryf, who was born New Year's Day, January 1, 1956.

Robert then married Joyce and they had a son, Jamie Thomas Paschall, born December 9, 1953.  Their 2nd son, Kenneth Fredrick Paschall, was born July 25, 1960.  Their third son, Jeffery Lynn Paschall, was born May 25, 1962  and their last child was a daughter, Donna Paschall, who was born July 9, 1963.

Even though the Navy had made him change his name legally back then, he was always known and called Bobbie Lee by the entire family. When he had gotten out of the Navy, he and Lois stayed out on the West Coast, living most of their lives in California, with the exception of a short period of time that they spent in the State of Washington.  With such a large family in the making Bobbie Lee always managed to get back home to North Carolina and Virigina for short visits with the rest of his family. It wasn't until 1956 or '57 that he was able to bring the rest of his family from California back home, and then again in 1958 when Grandma Paschall took ill.  Then in his later years, he always tried to make it back home for the Family Reunions when they began taking place in the '80's. He always loved those times at the Reunions when he would help his brother (whom you are about to meet) do the old fashioned pig roasting, and spending time with his family on the East Coast.

Rudolph Arthur (Dorsey) Paschall
B. September 12, 1920 - D. January 16, 1996
Dorsey married Catherine Elizabeth Wheeler (B. Sept. 21, 1927 - D. Dec. 1, 1998) in the summer of 1947 while he was home on furlough from the Army. "Cat", as his wife was affectionately known all their married life, went back to Germany with him and that's where their first daughter, Donna Paschall-Sparks was born on June 20, 1950. He was stationed back in the States in North Carolina by the time their 2nd daughter, Evelyn (Evie) Paschall-Troutman, was born May 29, 1952, and their 3rd daughter Denise (Nee-see) Lynne Paschall-Jones, on October 10, 1958.

During his years in the Army - Stateside, his wife and daughters lived in Youngsville until the early '60's when he was stationed in, and they moved to, South Carolina. Shortly after Dorsey was sent back to Germany, he and "Cat" were divorced.

Once again, Dorsey was shipped back Stateside, this time stationed in California. During a leave he returned once again to North Carolina to visit family. While still on  leave he traveled to Florida to see an old 'flame' (Ruth Mae Wilson - B. Sept. 20, 1923-D. Dec. 1, 1993) of his and soon thereafter - sure enuf! - they were married. She went back to California with him until his retirement in 1969. They moved back to Florida to the home she owned and had rented out while they were gone. Ruth and Dorsey's ex-wife 'Cat' were always good friends and remained so throughout his life -- not to mention the fact that Ruth and Catherine were cousins!

One of Dorsey's greatest joys was traveling back to Bunn, North Carolina every year for the Family Reunion. He was always in charge of making the barbecue which meant everything from going to get the pigs and doing it all from scratch, spending all nite turning that spit, roasting them from dusk to dawn, till everyone arrived and began chopping it all up at long tables where all the vittles were spread for a day of rejoicin' and eatin' and tellin' stories. He was the backbone of lots of love and memories.

After Ruth's death in 1993, Dorsey became ill and moved in with his daughter Evie who lived in Salisbury, North Carolina.

The following 'Tribute' was actually written by 'Cat' in 1996:

A Tribute To Dorsey
Throughout his military career of twenty-seven years, First Sergeant Rudolph A.
Paschall (lovingly called Dorsey by family and friends), was first and foremost
a great soldier.
Dorsey served in all enlisted ranks from Private to Sergeant Major. His
leadership traits and attitude toward fellow soldiers was outstanding, as was
his loyalty and devotion to his troops, his commanders and his country.
He was a veteran of World War II and was actively involved in the invasion
of Normandy and many other battles throughout France and Italy.
Dorsey's many endeavors in leadership and devotion to duty was constantly
recognized by his superiors as expemplifying the highest standards of
professionalism. His love of country, devotion to duty and caring about his
fellow soldiers in war time and in peace time earned many awards, commendations,
and medals, including the American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct
Medals with clasps, Army Occupation Medals (Germany & S.E. Asia),
European, African and Middle East Campaign, National Defense Service
Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medals and others.
His second and of equal prominence was his love and devotion to his family.
His children were his heartstrings and his grandchildren his joy.
He leaves behind three daughters, Donna Sparks, Evelyn Troutman and
Denise Jones. Six grandchildren and one great grandchild, a brother Bobby
Lee Paschall and a sister Virginia Roper, all of whom he was proud. He
loved them very much.
Rudolph Arthur (Dorsey) Paschall retired from the Army in 1969. He died
January 16, 1996 in his home at Evie's. Dorsey was 75.

Mary Elnora Paschall-Hardison-Black
B. January 18, 1926 - D. October 2, 1991
Known as 'Mary' to the folks in Virginia, and 'Elnora' to the folks in North Carolina, 'Aunt Elnora' to me (the author of these pages), and 'Aunt Jenny' to the 'Northern' Cousins of this clan, and because she was the youngest child of the family, her brothers and sister just called her 'Sis'.

Mary Elnora Paschall married Albert Denton Hardison, Sr. and they had one son, Albert Denton (called "A.D.") Hardison, Jr., born February 12, 1945. They were divorced shortly after his birth. Later on she married Roy Eugene Black (B. July 18, 1928-D. July 16, 1993) and they had 6 children.  Their first daughter, Billie Jo Black-Phillippe was born May 5, 1953. A second daughter, Mary Eugenia (Jenny) Black-Moore, was born July 5, 1954.  Their son, Jeffery Allan Black was born October 21, 1956, and another son, Darrell Edward Black, was born November 11, 1959. Mary and Roy had two more daughters, Candice Ann Black-Guadalupe, born May 7, 1962 and Joy Elaine Black-Palos, born March 17, 1964.

Throughout her younger days she lived in Virginia with her sister, Addie until her marriage to Albert Hardison. She was best known for her wit and laughter. She spent her life as a mother and homemaker raising her children while most of those years Roy was out of the country, working in the oil fields in Saudia Arabia. During these years they lived in Portsmouth, Virginia. She was an avid card-player and well known for always opening her home to anyone who wanted to come visit for a spell. One of her most favorite things to do was go out to Bowers Hill to eat steamed crabs the old-fashioned way - which is to say, you go outside, spreading newspaper on the table, crack crabs and eat! Like all the others in our family, she shared the joy of attending all the Family Reunions where she loved telling old stories about the family.

When Roy retired they bought some land and moved to Saxe, Virginia where they remained until her death in 1991. Roy stayed there until his death in '93, and their son Jeffery still lives there as of this writing.

There is one more person I need to tell you about. Our dearly beloved Grandmother
had a daughter by a previous marriage that was not mentioned earlier.
Nora Florence (Adcock-West)-Paschall was married to
Benjamin Franklin West (B. June 20, 1875-D. August 12, 1940)
and they had a daughter named Pearlie Laura Elizabeth (West) Matthews.
She was born February 10, 1900 and if she has since passed away, we've had no
information passed along to us.

Pearlie's husband was John Henry Matthews and they had 8 children between them. Because these are relatives by marriage, we do not have complete information available however,
Pearlie was raised by our Grandfather as a Paschall even though she carried the 'West' name. In honor of their being a 'part of the family', I'd like to list all of Pearlie & John Henry's children here:
Henry Elmo Matthews (missing in action),
John Robert Matthews (deceased),
Ralph (called "R.F.") Frederick Matthews (deceased),
Paul Cruder (called "P.C.") Matthews
Peggy Ruth Matthews (deceased)

Another son, Otha Thomas Matthews, Sr.(deceased), was married to a woman named "Billie" and they had two children:
a son, Otha Thomas Matthews, Jr. (called "Turk")
'Turk' married and has 3 children-one is a son named Kenny.
    a daughter, Theresa Matthews
Theresa married and also has a child

A second daughter of Pearlie and John Henry's, Doris Pearl (Matthews) Saunders-Barham, was born March 15, 1928. Doris still resides in California as of this writing. Her children by Floyd Heywood Saunders, Sr. (D. July 30, 1993) are:
Adam Dwayne Saunders born June 7, 1966
Ernest Paul Saunders born September 16, 1953
Ernest Paul married Rita Fay Robinson (B. Jan. 22, 1955) and they have two children
Dwayne Paul Saunders born October 3, 1973
Tara Lynn born April 10, 1977.
    Floyd Heywood Saunders Jr., July 12, 1949;

A third daughter of Pearlie and John Henry's, Florence Elizabeth Matthews (D. April 16, 1982) married Gordon Moseley and their children are:
a son, Henry Arthur (called "H.A.") Moseley
    a daughter, Laura Ann Moseley
    a 2nd daughter, Nora Elizabeth Mosely-Eure
    a 3rd daughter, Priscilla Moseley-Lockner, born March 19, 1954.

If Anyone has more information on any of the above mentioned relatives,
birth/death dates, children's names, etc.
PLEASE contact me at the email address listed below so that we
